May 18th, 2009:
Curios to know who is visiting Al's (Dad's) website these days. If you don't mind, please drop me an email at brad.molina@hp.com and say hello!
Thanks,
Brad Molina (Al's Son)

The College of Marin Board has
rejected a plan to save the Bolinas Marine Lab. Joe Mueller is planning to
hold a protest at the next Board Meeting, which is scheduled for January 15th,
6:30, in the student center on Kentfield COM campus. Joe is asking folks
to meet in SC 190 (in Science Center) at 6:00 to put together protest posters.
If you or anyone you know has benefited from the use of the Bolinas Marine Lab
please do what you can to either attend this meeting or write a letter to
newspapers (IJ, Chronicle) stating why it's worth investing in the lab. If
you knew Al you know how important this lab was to him - please do what you can
to help. Thanks!
** NEW September 10,
2007
The entire compilation of Al's journals are now available on our website for you
to read - HUGE, HUGE thanks to Annette Nibley for all her hard work on pulling
these together from all of Dad's logs, scribbles, notes, etc! You
can view the journals in Word format by clicking
HERE or read the HTML
version by going to the Traveling with Al
section. Enjoy!
** NEW April 4th, 2006
Added two new chapters from book about Al (written by Annette Nibley).
Given the current situation with the Bolinas Marine Lab (College Of Marin board
trying to close down due to maintenance costs and potential fault line issues) -
Annette decided to skip ahead a bit on the pieces we put on this website to
provide background on how the Marine Lab came about. As you will read, Al
Molina and Gordon Chan put their heart and soul into this effort - a battle that
Joe Mueller (Teacher at COM) and others are taking to the Board to save the
Marine Lab. To go directly to book page click
HERE
If you would like to get involved
in this battle, or a least understand what is going on, please visit the
following site that Joe has put together. http://savebolinasmarinelab.org/
** NEW November 29th, 2005
Added new chapter from book about Al - "Pollito" (Al's childhood and college
years). To go directly
to book page click HERE.
** NEW October 4th, 2005
Vern Dander, one of Al's best friends growing up, has sent me some wonderful
journals (and pictures) from Vern and Al's childhood. Please click Vern's
Journals at top of page, or on left, to read these great memories.
Also, Vern has sent some great
pictures from those childhood days. Please click on the Vern's Pictures
link above, or at left. Here is an example, showing Vern and Al in Key
Club at Stockton College.

One of Al’s students, Annette Nibley,
wrote a book about him which, for various reasons, was never published. This was
to be the introduction of her book: GO
HERE!
**** New section added! Excerpts from Al's
Journals from his
**** travels around the world. Read this beautiful, poetic
**** entry from a morning on the Amazon River (9/20/04)
Welcome to Al Molina's (2/2/1935 - 4/6/1997) web site - dedicated to the man
(my Dad) who spent 37 years helping students all over the world learn to understand,
admire, protect, love, and share the beauty all around us. To witness the universe
in the tidepools; to glide
along the waves in search of the the humpback or majestic blue; to peer through a lense
and enter the inner-workings of the Indian Paintbrush; to gasp at the sidewinder that
slithers past your feet in
the hot dessert sun; to lay completely still under the stars and just listen to the sounds
of life......
There are three goals for this web site to exist:
Share information about Al's life; the adventures,
the classes, the creation of a marine lab
To share, and allow others to share, how Al effected
the lives of those who had the chance
to know him
To provide information on events around the world
that impact the environment we live in
Here are some of the sights you will find as you cruise
through the pages:
A page of links to sites Al would have liked (and you
might find interesting)
A page of current news events that relate to the
environment we live in
A page that allows you to add a story or anything
else about Al that you would like to share with others to visit this site
A page that contains news stories and other
information related to the environment we live in
A page that allows you to provide feedback about this
site to us so we can keep improving it
A page dedicated to the Death Valley field trip that
so many people were fortunate enough to enjoy. Most of the information for this page
comes directly from the journals that students wrote about their travel - the journal that
Al kept in his offices all these years.
A page containing pictures, such as: pictures taken
of Al in his early years of teaching, pictures of Als ashes being spread in different
places all over the world (as he wished), pictures of the rocks dedicated to Al (which sit
in front of the Bolinas Marine Lab), and many others.
Oh, and as you can see, we have one of the
great mysteries of Al as one of our companions on our tour
....Many have
ideas of what he/she is, or represents; a bird, a undefined animal, a terestrial being, or
is it AL??? Drop me an email with your ideas (duke20011@msn.com),
when I have enough I'll create a page dedicated to the mystery....
Coming soon will be a page on current events,
such as the book about Al that is planned to be completed this year, a plan for a slide
show (As many of you know Al had LOTS of slides), and hopefully a renaming of the Bolinas
Marine Lab after Al.
Please send us any feedback you have either by
using the page provided or directly via email at duke20011@msn.com
Or just sent it regular mail:
